ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

Andy Collins is a member of the Extension Broadband Education and Adoption Team (e-BEAT) that was created as part of a grant from the governor's office to help Mississippi participate in a digital economy by using broadband and information technology to further community and economic development opportunities.  e-BEAT's main goals are to increase broadband adoption by Mississippi households and communities, expand the variety of ways in which the internet is being used, and document the benefits of broadband for the audiences being targeted.  So far in e-BEAT's Region 2 and 3 (Coastal Research and Extension area), over one hundred digital literacy workshops have been completed on subjects such as Facebook, Email, Twitter, Basic Internet Skills, Job Hunting, etc.  Two cities have been brought online with a creation of a completely customizable website, and several more have come online in the social media realm of Facebook.  Multiple others have received technical assistance in becoming Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs), aggregating demand for internet services, and bringing wireless internet to cities and downtown areas.

Randy Coker is a Research Associate with the Mississippi State University Coastal Research and Extension Center in Biloxi.  He assists in the promotion of the Mississippi MarketMaker program, as well as, demonstrating the benefits of the program to the constituents across the State of Mississippi.  The website for Mississippi MarketMaker is ms.foodmarketmaker.edu.

Maggie Lawrence is a Communications and Marketing Specialist with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. Maggie is one of the co-chairs leading Alabama’s social media efforts. She has conducted many social media training programs in Alabama and has presented nationally on how to integrate social media into Extension programming.

Dr. Ben Posadas developed and maintains the Horticulture and Marine Resource Economics (HMRE) research and extension program at the Coastal Research and Extension Center (CREC). The HMRE website is at coastal.msstate.edu/marine-economics.

Beth Walton is the Alabama MarketMaker Outreach Coordinator and enjoys helping to promote the local seafood and charter boat industries to consumers and customers.   She is with the Mississippi Alabama Sea Grant Consortium and Auburn University Marine Extension and Research Center (AUMERC).
